Our 91-year-old neighbor Steve, who shared ownership of our cat Smokey, died Saturday at the north Seattle nursing home where he had been living for much of the past year. A former Seattle homicide detective, Steve enjoyed playing cards at the Eagles and Elks, socializing with other police department retirees, watching the Mariners' games, and raising raspberries. We miss him.
